We invest in professional development at every level, supporting attorneys pursuing board certification and paralegals working toward Florida Registered Paralegal status, covering the costs and providing mentorship throughout the process.

Company History
The Virga Law Firm, P.A. was founded in 2015 by Gerard Virga, a University of Florida graduate who earned his Juris Doctor from Samford University's Cumberland School of Law. Before launching his own practice, Gerard built a distinguished career in public service, first as a law clerk to a United States Senator and later as an associate at a private firm. These experiences gave him a deep understanding of the law from every angle and shaped his vision for a family law firm that would combine legal excellence with genuine compassion for the families it serves.
What makes Gerard different from many firm founders is that he does not just practice family law. He lives it. Gerard has been through his own divorce and understands firsthand the emotional weight, the uncertainty, and the life-changing impact that family law matters carry. He is also part of a blended family, which gives him a personal perspective on the challenges that so many of the firm's clients face every day. That lived experience is woven into the DNA of the firm. It shapes the way the team approaches every case, every client conversation, and every courtroom appearance. When Gerard built this firm, he did so knowing exactly what families go through because he has been on the other side of the table himself.
Gerard opened the firm's doors in Northwest Florida with a clear mission: to help people move forward with their lives during some of the most difficult chapters they will ever face. What began as a focused family law practice quickly grew as the firm earned a reputation for delivering strong results while treating every client, and every team member, like family. That combination of skilled advocacy and heartfelt service became the foundation the firm was built on, and it continues to guide every decision made today.
Over the years, The Virga Law Firm has expanded from its original Northwest Florida roots to offices in Pensacola, Fort Walton Beach, Panama City, and Panama City Beach establishing a true statewide presence. That journey was not without hardship. In October 2018, Hurricane Michael, one of the most powerful storms to ever make landfall in the United States, devastated the Panama City area and destroyed the firm's office. Rather than retreat, the team rallied together, continuing to serve clients through the chaos and ultimately rebuilding from the ground up. That chapter in the firm's history says everything about the character of the people who work here. When the community needed them most, they showed up, rebuilt, and came back stronger. It is a defining moment that reinforced the firm's deep roots in Northwest Florida and its commitment to the people who call it home.
The team has grown to include attorneys with diverse and impressive backgrounds, along with a dedicated support staff of paralegals, and legal assistants who share the firm's commitment to its clients and communities. Despite this growth, the firm has remained grounded in the values Gerard established from day one: authenticity, integrity, ownership, and an unwavering focus on putting the client first.
The firm's growth has never been about size for the sake of size. Each new office was opened in response to a genuine need in the community, and each new attorney was brought on because they shared the firm's passion for family law and its people-first culture. The Virga Law Firm has intentionally built a team of attorneys who are known for being tough in the courtroom but full of heart outside of it. Many of the firm's attorneys are actively involved in committees and training focused on children's issues, support matters, and evolving areas of family law, ensuring they remain at the forefront of advocacy for the families they represent.

Senior Family Law Attorneys earn between $130,000 and $170,000 with a $5,000 signing bonus, Mid-Level Attorneys earn between $110,000 and $140,000 with a $3,500 signing bonus, and associate and entry-level positions come with clear compensation structures and growth pathways. We publish what we pay because we respect the professionals we are trying to bring onto our team, and we do not believe in hiding behind vague language about compensation being "competitive."
We also understand that many attorneys, especially those earlier in their careers, carry significant student loan debt. That is why we offer student loan assistance options to help ease that burden and allow our attorneys to focus on their clients and their craft rather than stressing over monthly payments.
Our attorneys enjoy paid time off and holidays, because rest is not a luxury in this profession. It is a necessity. Family law is deeply personal and emotionally demanding work, and we want our team members to have the time they need to recharge, spend time with their families, and come back ready to advocate at the highest level.
